About Nike Athletic Wear
Nike Athletic Wear gets its name from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. Victory is an appropriate term considering that the company is the largest sportswear supplier anywhere in the world. Nike operates nine different company brands under its logo: Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Air Jordan, Team Starter as well as divisions such as Bauer, Cole Haan, Hurley International and Converse. The very first products the company ever manufactured were basketball shoes and running shoes, so the trademark of the company was and probably always will be innovative designs in shoes. Recently, the company teamed up with Apple to make the Nike+ product, which allows wearers to keep track of their running performance using a radio device and iPod Nano. Nike currently has 500 factories around the world in 45 different countries.
The Attitude Of Nike Athletic Wear
The Nike athletic company attempts to appeal to a young and affluent crowd. It produces premium level shoes as well as less-expensive shoes (such as the Starter brand) and cheap Nike athletic apparel for discount stores. Nike athletic clothing incorporates their youthful attitude into their products and marketing strategy. The company reaches out to customers with strong advertising messages, such as the “Just Do It” slogan and the world famous Nike logo. One reason Nike Athletic wear and shoes are such expensive products is because the company uses celebrity athlete endorsements and professional and college team tie-ins to market the athletics gear, thus appropriating the premium cost. Nike athletic shorts and shoes are generally priced higher than the company's major competitors.
Nike has many competitors on the market, especially considering how many products they sell in different categories. Today's ultra-competitive market was unheard of in Nike's 1972 debut, and Nike actually no major competitor until Reebok came along in the 1970's. Wait a minute, hasn't Reebok been around since the late 19th century? Technically speaking yes, but it wasn't until Reebok's reemergence in the 1980's when Nike finally met its match. Now Adidas, the second largest apparel company in the world, owns Reebok and keeps Nike running fast to hold on to first place in the sportswear market.
