Athletic Supporter
An athletic supporter is also called a jock or jockstrap and is a type of undergarment for men that is used in sports. (Although athletic support garments have been used for other reasons) An athletic supporter usually consists of an elastic waistband with a support pouch and two straps. The straps extend from the base of the pouch, around the buttocks of the man and attaches to the waistband. The pouch may be fitted with a special pocket that can accommodate an impact resistant cup. An athletic protective cup supporter protects the testicles and penis from possible injury that could occur in a variety of sports.
Famous Athletic Supporters In History
The term athletic supporter or jock has been used in some fashion or another ever since the late 1800's. The first recorded jockstrap invention was in 1874 by C.F. Bennett who created the product for the comfort of bicycle jockeys. Soon, the product was patented and mass-produced. The original Bike Web Company by C. F. Bennett later became the Bike Company, and to this day remains the number one company in the sale of athletic supporters. More innovations to the athletic supporter came in the early 1900's with the Heidelberg Electric Belt, an electric powered jockstrap that was thought to cure certain physical disorders. This phenomenon ushered in the trend of using of athletic supporters for medical reasons. For a time, in the 80's and 90's jockstraps were largely replaced by compression shorts and soon were no longer required by high schools or colleges for game play. However, in recent times more athletes are returning to the athletic supporter and major companies are now releasing products such as Ace athletic supporters, Duke athletic supporters, Under Armour 100% cotton athletic supporters and Champion athletic supporters.

Should A Boy Wear An Athletic Supporter?
There is no right or wrong answer here, as an athletic supporter for teens is a matter of personal comfort. Some boys prefer to wear athletic supporters for protection, while others may enjoy wearing the athletic supporter as a comfortable and cooler alternative to underwear. An athletic supporter does hold the genitals in place, preventing the testicles from bouncing during athletic activity (which could be painful) and from direct contact as the result of an accident (which would be very painful). However, not everyone agrees that teen athletic supporters are absolutely necessary, as many international soccer players perform just fine without them. When you're out on the field you need all the help you can get so why not look into athletic support?
